Lindsey with Sunny
Lindsey (Flietstra) VanderLaan

Lindsey has been around horses her entire life, deciding to form High Point Stables, LLC in August, 2006. She remains active, showing in both English and Western classes. Lindsey especially enjoys giving lessons to young enthusiasts, teaching them everything from the basics of horse care to the fundamentals of Western riding. As her riders progress to the point of being confident and ready to compete, Lindsey takes great pride in giving students the opportunity to compete in various horse shows throughout mid-Michigan. Not all horse lovers have the opportunity to get connected, and Lindsey truly enjoys introducing the world of horses to children and adults alike. After a brief layoff from schooling while getting married in September of 2006, Lindsey returned to graduate in Spring of 2009, completing her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration to go along with her prior studies in Animal Science at Michigan State University.

Kate instructing a happy student

Kate Veenstra

Kate purchased her first horse when she was twelve years old and has been involved with horses ever since then. During high school, Kate was actively involved in 4-H and showed locally at the county fair and open shows. When going to college forced the decision to sell her horse, she took the opportunity to volunteer at a therapeutic riding center. After graduation, Kate worked full-time at the Hanson Center (a NARHA therapeutic riding center) in Burr Ridge, IL, as an animal caretaker and instructor. In 2005, she became certified as a registered NARHA instructor. Once certified, Kate began teaching lessons on a more full-time basis as well as mentoring prospective instructors through their certification process. Since coming to Lansing in 2007, Kate has been involved with teaching lessons to local community members and has now purchased her own horse. She is pleased to be offering lessons at High Point Stables. Kate is experienced and knowledgeable in teaching both English and Western riding at the beginner and intermediate levels. She teaches balanced riding and offers her students a comprehensive understanding of what it means to care for a horse.
